Baltimore City teachers are eager to incorporate art into their everyday teaching, but are often unsure of how to best integrate new methods and approaches like design thinking.
Design Response
In 2019, I facilitated design thinking workshops with over 70 Baltimore City Public School Teachers from PreK - 12th grade at the Arts Every Day Arts Integration Summer Institute.
In the 3-hour workshop teachers used design thinking methods to response to a specific challenge: How might we make living in Baltimore better? After completing a brief round interviews and brainstorming, participants prototyped and shared ideas.
As part of the workshop teachers developed a lesson plan featuring design thinking and identified ways to modify the language, instruction, and assessment for different grades and subjects.
